A Journey Through The Himalayas

This tour focuses into the holiest shrine of the Sikhs - Golden Temple at Amritsar followed by visiting the seat of exiled Dalai Lama at Dharamshala and traverses through the Dhauladhar mountains to reach Taragarh Palace which is situated by a forested estate surrounded by tea gardens of the Kangra valley, one of the most scenic and unexplored areas of Himachal Pradesh. Located at a height of 1000 meters, Taragarh Palace is at the foot of the Dhauladhar mountains with splendid views of surrounding snow-capped peaks, followed by staying at the scenic hill cities of Manali and Shimla.

Day 01: ARRIVE DELHI

Arrive New Delhi, the capital city of India, where you are greeted and escorted to your hotel, where a room has been blocked for immediate occupancy. Overnight at to your hotel.

Day 02: NEW & OLD DELHI – SIGHTSEEING

Qutub Minar, DelhiAfter breakfast at hotel, our representative meets you at the hotel and will brief you on your entire itinerary / tour; and later you undertake a full day sightseeing tour of New & Old Delhi.Visit of the Qutab Minar Complex, dominated by the 234-foot Victory Tower, followed by the spectacular Rajpath, passing the triumphant House of Parliament, Diplomatic Enclave, President’s House and the India gate and the famous Birla Mandir. In the afternoon, your focus is touring Old Delhi. Visit the great Red Fort which was the opulent residence of Shah Jehan, builder of the Taj Mahal and the magnificent Moti Masjid (Pearl Mosque) which dominates the skyline. Followed by visiting the Raj Ghat-- cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi, later walk through Chandi Chowk, the old marketplace of Shahajahanabad, now a picturesque bazaar. Later visit some of the main shopping areas in Delhi. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03: DELHI / AMRITSAR

Today early morning you are transferred to the railway station to board a superfast train to Amritsar. Train leaves at 6 Am and arrive Amritsar at 1 PM. Breakfast is served onboard the train. Upon arrival at Amritsar, you are transferred to our hotel. Amritsar, is the seat of the Sikh religion, has been the place of choosing for all the Sikh Gurus, many Hindu priests worshipped in the temples and score of Sufis preaching. The city has been home to freedom fighters, thinkers, politicians and military strategists. This afternoon you tour Jalianwala Bagh. It is renowned with the sacrifice of thousands of Independence freedom seekers at Jalianwalla Bagh has an unending list of freedom fighters. Later you undertake a journey to International border of India & Pakistan. The pomp and pageantry of the Beating Retreat and the Change of Guard within handshaking distance of the Indian and Pakistani forces makes for a most charming spectacle. Witness the beating the Retreat ceremony, where flags of the respective countries are lowered. After sunset you drive back to Amritsar for your night stay at the hotel. Golden Triangle, Amritsar.

Day 04: AMRITSAR

Early morning visit to the holiest of holy Sikh shrine, The Golden Temple. Golden Temple or Sri Harmander Sahib, which had a humble beginning as a mud and thatch roof construction in the fourteenth century. Today the imposing structure with Golden roof and a Sarovar around it is the cynosure of the city of Amritsar. Return to hotel for breakfast and the rest of the day is at leisure to explore the city on your own. Overnight is at your hotel.

Day 05: AMRITSAR / DALHOUSIE

After breakfast at your hotel, drive to Dalhousie. Dalhousie is located 180 kms in the State of Himachal Pradesh. It will take us apprx 4 hrs to reach there through picturesque valley. Arrive Dalhousie and check in at your hotel. Dalhousie is built on and around five hills. Located on the western edge of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas, it is surrounded by the beautiful scenery of snow-capped peaks. Dalhousie is situated at 6000-9000 feet above sea level. Scottish and Victorian architecture is prevalent in the bungalows and churches in the town. Overnight is at your hotel.

Day 06: DALHOUSIE

After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, your chauffeur will take you on an excursion to Khajjiar. Small picturesque saucer-shaped plateau surrounded by dense pine and deodar forests, is one of the 160 places throughout the world to have been designated “Mini Switzerland”. at an altitude of 6,500 ft. Set against the backdrop of dense pines, deodars and lush green meadow, Khajjiar is exquisitely nestled down in the foothills of the imposing Dhauladhar ranges. You drive back to the hotel in the evening for your overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 07: DALHOUSIE / DHARAMSHALA

After breakfast at the hotel your morning is at leisure. Later you will drive to Dharamshala at a distance of 160 kms and will take apprx 4 hrs. Upon arrival at Dharamshala you check into our hotel. Dharamsala, popularly known as the ‘Queen of the Hills’, is divided into lower and upper towns with a difference of 1500ft. between them. Dharamsala is now the seat of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. After the Chinese conquest of his country. In the evening you visit Mcleodganj. Tibet has lent importance to Mcleod Ganj. The Buddha temple is situated opposite the present abode of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Visit the Tibetan monasteries and nunnery. Later stop by at the War Memorial. Overnight is at your hotel.

Day 08: DHARAMSHALA / TARAGARH

After breakfast at your hotel of stay, you embark on a journey to Taragarh, located at a distance of 60 kms from Dharamshala and it will take us 2 hrs drive through the mountains. Taragarh is situated at an altitude of 1000 m above the sea level on a 15-acre area of tea plantations. It lies on the foothills of the Dhauladhar Mountains and offers breathtaking view of the snow-capped peaks. In the afternoon you will visit the Tashijong Monastery. For its religious importance and the superb view of the Kangra valley. Kangra Fort lies at the confluence of the Banganga and Pataalganga rivers. It is 5,000-year-old fort believed to have been built by Raja Susarma Chandra in the Mahabharata period. You return to your hotel for the overnight.

Day 09: TARAGARH / MANALI

After an early breakfast at the hotel, you take a drive that will take you to Manali, situated at a distance of 230 kms and will take the better part of the day. Though the drive is long, but it winds through the mountains and the view spectacular. Manali has spectacular views of snowcapped peaks and wooded slopes. The Beas river rushes along its rocky course amid grassy meadows carpeted with wild flowers and wagtails hop along from stone to stone along the stream's edge. Upon arrival at Manali, check into your hotel for overnight.

Day 10: MANALI

After breakfast you drive up the mountain to reach Rohtang Pass. Rohtang Pass is at 3979 meters and is 51kms from Manali on highway to Leh. It offers a panorama and spectacular Mountain View. There are beautiful sights of glaciers, peaks and Chandra river flows down in the Lahaul valley. Slightly to the left are the twin peaks of the Geypan. This afternoon you visit the Roerich Art Gallery at Naggar, located 12 kms fromManali. Nicholas Roerich embraced stupendous quality. His inspiration from the Himalayas drew him to paint thousands of paintings of the Himalayas, the sentinels of India. Drive back to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 11: MANALI / SHIMLA

After breakfast you drive to Shimla today, located 250 kms from Manali and again take the better part of the day. The British Empire may have ceased to exist, but its echoes linger on in Shimla   As the summer capital' of the British in India, this was the country's focus for the better part of every year and now, it is the state capital of Himachal Pradesh. Today it is one of India's most popular hill resorts. Upon arrival at Shimla, you will check at your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 12: SHIMLA

You have your breakfast at your leisure. You relax at the resort. Since vehicular movement is restricted within Shimla, you may like to go for a stroll at The Mall Road or the Lakkad Bazaar (famous for wooden handicraft). Overnight is at the hotel.

Day 13: SHIMLA / DELHI

After breakfast you drive to Delhi today morning. The distance to Delhi is 260 kms and will take apprx 12 hours. Upon arrival at Delhi, we will check into our hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 14: DELHI/ ONWARD DESTINATION

After breakfast the day is at leisure for individual activites. Later you will be transferred to the International airport for your onward destination.
