Day 1 >> CHIANG MAI - TREK TO HILL TRIBE VILLAGE (-/L/D)

08h30am. Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Chiang Mai, depart by covered pick up truck to Chiang Dao area. Stop at an elephant camp nestled in lush jungle surroundings. Watch elephants bathing and demonstrating their skills. After the show, experience bamboo rafting trip down Ping River. Then drive on to a village to begin a hike through jungle and limestone peaks eventually reaching a Palong village where we spend the night at the Padang Lodge, a basic lodge settled in the nature. Enjoy a succulent Thai dinner served at the lodge (Basic comfort).

Day 2 >> CHIANG DAO - THATON (B/L/-)

After breakfast, hike up a mountain for 1 hour to reach a small Karen settlement, where villagers look after elephants. From there, trek down to reach another village where our vehicle is waiting for us. Proceed to the Chiangdao caves and Buddhist sanctuary, where we will have lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, continue by car to Ban Thaton, a small town near the Burmese border, overlooking the Maekok River. The remainder of the day is at leisure, and we suggest you to visit Wat Thaton Temple with a giant Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Dinner at your own expense. Overnight at simple hotel in Thaton.

Day 3 >> THATON - DOI MAE SALONG - HILL TRIBE VILLAGE (B/L/D)

Depart to Doi Maesalong, a scenic mountain road leading to remote villages, Akkha and Yao hilltribe village. Reach the Chinese refugee village Santikiri on the summit. Continue down the valley to Chiangrai for lunch. Afternoon depart to a large Karen village, from where we will embark on elephant's back for a ride up the mountain. End up in a small hilltop Lahu village where we spend the night with a local family. Dinner is prepared by your guide (Basic accommodation).

Day 4 >> MAE SAI - GOLDEN TRIANGLE - CHIANG RAI/CHIANG MAI (B/L/-)

Trek for one hour to a small waterfall and to a forestry office. Meet our vehicle and drive north to Mae Sai, Thailand's northernmost point and an official Thai-Myanmar border crossing. Visit the bustling border market and optionally cross the border and visit the Burmese town of Thachilek (subject to border opening, border pass fees $US 5.- not included). After lunch in Mae Sai, Continue to the famous "Golden Triangle", the point where three borders meet: Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. The program ends with a transfer back to Chiang Mai (3 hours drive) or alternatively drop off at a hotel in Chiang Rai city or Chiang Rai Airport.

Private tour: Daily departure from Chiang Mai with English speaking guide (minimum 2 persons).

Our package prices are inclusive of transfers as mentioned above by private air conditioned van from day 2 to 4 and by covered truck on day 1, services of an English speaking tour guide, accommodation on day 1 in Padang Lodge, day 2 in tourist class hotel and day 3 in hill tribe village (sleeping bags or sheet and mosquito nets are provided), meals as mentioned in the itinerary, elephant show, elephant riding, cave entrance fees. Not included are beverages, any additional meals not mentioned in the itinerary, personal expenses, surcharges for compulsory gala dinner at hotels during festive period, tips for guide and driver.
