Kanas Lake Tour

The nine days tour gives you the opportunity to explore the mysterious Kanas Lake and the Burqin River. The border city Hemu welcomes you to enjoy a different view of life.

Day 1 >> URUMQI

After your arrival in Urumqi, airport transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day is free and easy. Overnight in Urumqi.

Day 2 >> URUMQI (B/L/-)

Today's Activities: Heavenly Lake, Erdaoqiao Market, Boat for Cruise on the Heavenly Lake, Souvenir Shop of the Great Hall of the People
Meals: Breakfast, Chinese Lunch at Jiamu Restaurant

Heavenly Lake (1 hour): The Heavenly Lake is a very beautiful mountain lake formed more than million years ago in the 4th glacial epoch, so the water in it is pure and icy. The altitude of the lake is up to 2150 meters above the sea level and got its fame as the "jewel in the crown". To the east of the lake stands the Bogda Peak-the highest peak in the east part of Tian Shan Mountain, which is capped by glacier and snow glistening in the sun, finely contrasted with blue lake water, forming fabulous scenery,steep forested hills and high meadows with snow peaks behind.

A 3-hour drive from Urumqi along a good road passes a giant windfarm, wide rivers and pastures and up into the mountains. Tented camps line the river valley before a chair lift takes you up to the lake, which is also a favourite hiking and camping area. There you can walk or take electric carts, and a short boat ride (average 80m deep, 180m at its deepest point). Wear comfortable shoes and take sunburn cream and a light jacket.

Erdaoqiao Market (1 hour): The Erdaoqiao Bazaar is the largest in Urumqi. You'll find a bustling market filled with fruit, clothing, crafts, knives, carpets and almost anything that you can imagine. On Sunday, there are more stalls and more goods to buy than any other day. The old streets around the bazaar are really worth to visit.
Cruise on the Heavenly Lake (40 minutes): Visit Heavenly Lake by boat.
Jiamu Restaurant: Jiamu is a nationalistic style restaurant, mainly providing Uygur cuisine but no wine allowed while dining. There is a short time for live performance during lunch time.
Souvenir Shop at the Great Hall of the People: A Urumqi urban district's large-scale shopping shop, manages each kind of Xinjiang Hetian jade, the Xinjiang manual rug, as well as Xinjiang locality each kind of local color snacks

Day 3 >> URUMQI - FUYUN (B/L/-)

Today's Activities: Multi-colored Bay
Meals: Breakfast, Chinese Lunch

Drive some 400km northwards to Fuyun today and visit the Multi-colored Bay which locates in Fuyun County.
Multi-colored Bay:The movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" has left you a deep impression of the multicolored stone bay where the heroine Ziyi was hidden, this special scene in the movie is located at the Gobi desert, about 220 kilometers from Fuyun county of Xinjiang.

Day 4 >> FUYUN - BURQIN (B/L/-)

Morning departure for a 400km journey to Burqin. After arrival, discover this border city on your own.

Day 5 >> BURQIN - KANAS (B/L/-)

Kanas is only 150km away from Burqin county. Drive to this dreaming world after your breakfast.

Kanas Lake Natural Reserve Area: It is the most beautiful mountain lake you have never seen. It is the latest lake open to all tourists in China and has attained a reputation as "the tourism pearl of Mountain Altai". The lake takes on different colors following the four seasons of the year, sometimes it's crystal blue, sometimes it's dark green, or even gray, you may find it containing many colors setting off each another at a time, thus it got a name as the color-changing lake.

Day 6 >> KANAS (B/L/-)

A free day on your own to breathe in the fresh air and see beautiful landscape. You also have the option of taking a boat trip which is highly recommended, also a visit to local ethnic family - The TUWA people.

The Tuwa Tribe: A Mongolian tribe called Tuwa lives on the south bank of the Kanas Lake. Believing in Lamaism, it is a valiant ethic minority with a long history. Tuwa people speak Turkish, resembling the language of Kazakh, and live on hunting and graze. They also have a special folk custom.

Day 7 >> KANAS - BURQIN (B/L/-)

Drive to Burqin County, on the way we can have several stops at Kazak yurts and their grassland. You can pay a visit the Burqin River as well.

Burqin River: converge complex thaw glaciers, and covers an area of 5588 square kilometers, the Burqin river is 25 kilometers long with its deepest place of about 176 meters, there are various plants growing around the lake, which is an ideal place for sightseeing.

Day 8 >> BURQIN - URUMQI (B/L/-)

Drive around 400 km back from Burqin to Urumqi. On the way visit the Monster City.

Monster City: It's located in the Wu'wehe District, in the northeast of Kelamayi City. It's 90 kilometers away from the urban area. It has an abundant scientific connotation and extremely high ornamental value. It is a Yardan landform shaped by wind erosion and looks like ruined castles or various kinds of animals. When the day falls, the furious wind blow wildly in the city, which sounds just like angry ghost's wailing, so the local Kazakh people call it "Monster City".

Day 9 >> URUMQI (B/-/-)

Breakfast and Transfer to the Airport.
