Then walk (15 min) to the Lahu village. Walk along jungle trails to the remote village of Hmong Pha Mieng (1.5 hrs). Meet the inhabitants of this small hill tribe in a jungle clearing, then enjoy a picnic lunch amongst the trees. Walk to the top of the mountain (1.5 hrs), where the Red Lahu Village of Pha Daeng is located and enjoy a cup of Chinese tea with a village family. Walk along a mountain ridge to the Lahu village of Kup Kap (1 hr). The views from this village are spectacular, looking south to the valley far below or west to the mountain peaks stretching towards Burma. Enjoy the friendly attention of the curious Lahu villagers. Overnight at LAHU OUTPOST.
Day 2 > LAHU OUTPOST - LISU LODGE (B/L/D)
After breakfast in the Lahu village, one hour walk downhill to Huay Sadhan waterfall, with its large drop into a clear pool, then an hour walk along the stream and nature trail to Mae Taeng elephant camp for an hour elephant ride. A picnic lunch by the river, then a white water rafting of 45 mins. down the river (grade 1 to 2), arriving at the pretty Thai village of Muang Gurt. A short driving by local truck to the Akha village of Huay Pong, where you will enjoy a cup of tea and a chat with the shaman (witch doctor). Then, continue drive to the award winning Lisu Lodge, arriving late afternoon. Enjoy Lisu’s activities such as embroidering and organic gardening. Dinner at the Lodge. During dinner, enjoy Lisu music from the Lisu banjo players and dancing by girls from the village.
Day 3 > LISU LODGE - CHIANG MAI (B/L/-)
Breakfast at the lodge, then enjoy the “Lisu Lodge Experience”. Starting from Ton Lung temple, you will be guided by Lisu people to visit the herbal garden and the Lisu village. During the tour stop for a cup of tea at the shaman’s house and get an introduction to traditional medicine (an English speaking guide will accompanying the group through all activities will act as translator). Lunch at the Lisu Lodge. In the afternoon, enjoy an ox-cart ride through farmlands and orchards to the Thai village of Baan Pang Mai Daeng (about 1hour). Continue by a local truck (songtaew) to Chiang Mai.
