ITINERARY

KUCHING – BATANG AI (-/L/D)

DAY 1 Pick-up from Kuching City Hotel for a 290-km car ride with en route stops at a pepper farm, the local market in Serian town and also a stop to observe wild orchids and pitcher plants. Lunch will be provided in Lachau, a small upcountry Chinese village. After lunch you will proceed to beautiful Batang Ai Lake. Here, you will board native longboats for about 2 hours on the lake. Arrive at the longhouse where the Ibans will perform a traditional war dance in full ceremonial regalia to welcome you. Enjoy a traditional and cultural exchange with the Ibans and their families. You will be awed by the communal lifestyle they share in the longhouse. Dinner and overnight at the longhouse (very simple accommodation).

BATANG AI (B/L/D)

DAY 2 Today, you decide with your guide what you wish to do and see: for example you can choose to relax with the natives in the longhouse, learn to weave baskets, fishing nets, make traps and/or join them at the rice fields and pepper farms.

After breakfast, you venture on a native longboat, crossing Batang Ai Lake for a 20-minute boat ride, enter a tributary of Batang Ai, trek deep into the forest and observe the wildlife.

For the adventurous, you can choose to spend one night in the jungle (please bring your own sleeping bag).

For the less adventurous, you can return to the longhouse for another overnight stay (which means that you will not be able to trek too far away from the longhouse).

BATANG AI - KUCHING (B/L/-)

DAY 3 After breakfast, transfer back to Kuching with lunch included in Lachau.

Our package tour prices are inclusive of transportation, English speaking guide, meals as specified (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner), boat fees and 2 night accommodation at the longhouse.

Not included are meals not mentioned in program, beverages consumed during meals, optional tours, personal expenditure and porters.

Notes
All boat transfers and activities in the longhouse are on Seat-in-coach basis. Accommodation in the longhouse is very simple and you must be prepared for some discomfort due to primitive conditions. We will provide a mattress, mosquito nets and clean linen. Asian toilets and bathrooms are available, but very primitive.

Small deviations in the tour program are sometimes necessary, depending on road conditions and availability of rooms.
