ITINERARY

KUCHING – KACHONG RIVER (-/L/D)

DAY 1 Pick up from Kuching city hotel for a 290-km car ride with en route stops at a pepper farm, the local market in Serian town and also a stop to observe wild orchids and pitcher plants. Lunch will be provided in Lachau, a small upcountry Chinese village. After lunch you will continue the car ride to the jetty, where you will board native longboats on the Lemanak River and travel upstream for 90 minutes to arrive at an Iban Longhouse. Upon arrival take a short tea break and then proceed to meet all the families in the Iban longhouse called "Ngemah". After dinner the Ibans will sound their gongs and perform their war dance in full ceremonial regalia. Overnight in the longhouse with the Ibans (very simple accommodation).

KACHONG RIVER (B/L/D)

DAY 2 After breakfast you will join in a blowpipe demonstration, following which you will head up the river for 45 minutes to a small tributary called Sungei Menyebat. After a picnic lunch by a sandbank on the river, proceed further upstream before you start to trek for another 1 hour to a very traditional and simple longhouse called "Kachong".

After dinner you can join in some activities (weaving, fishing, swimming, jungle trekking or simply sitting and chatting) with the Ibans. Overnight in the Longhouse.

KACHONG RIVER (B/L/D)

DAY 3 After breakfast you can choose to make another trek to explore the nearby forest or simply sit in the native longboats and enjoy nature while the natives pole you along the river through the jungle. If you take this option, you may also decide to spend a night out in the jungle.

Optional Activities: Cast net fishing, spear fishing, collecting bamboo for cooking and boiling tea, collecting leaves for backwoods cooking, learning how to build fish and animal traps or perhaps being brought to a hunting trail.

KACHONG RIVER – KUCHING (B/L/-)

DAY 4 After breakfast return by boat to Lemanak jetty and by van to Kuching with lunch in Lachau.

Our package tour prices are inclusive of transportation, English-speaking guide, meals as specified (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner), all entrance & boat fees and 3 nights accommodation at guesthouse/longhouse.

Not included are meals not mentioned in program, beverages consumed during meals, optional tours, personal expenditure and porters.

Notes
All boat transfers and activities in the longhouse are on Seat-in-coach basis. Accommodation in the longhouse is very simple and you must be prepared for some discomfort due to primitive conditions. We will provide a mattress, mosquito nets and clean linen. Asian toilets and bathrooms are available, but very primitive.

Small deviations in the tour program are sometimes necessary, depending on road conditions and availability of rooms.
