DAY 2 After breakfast, free at leisure until your departure for your next adventure trip by boat to Kampong Melano. The trip from Sematan to Kampong Melano (Malay village) takes between 45 minutes to 1½ hours by boat, depending on sea condition.
Kampong Melano is home to around 40 families (200 plus people) who live in traditional wooden Malay houses scattered around the bay.
In addition to the main beach at Kampong Melano there are also numbers of small isolated bays and beaches. They are only a short distance away from the Kampong. Here you can swim and relax. Another optional activity for the day is to head inland along well-worn walking paths which lead to small farms and vegetable gardens. In addition to subsistence crops most villagers grow cash crops such as pepper and rubber. Visitors are welcome to try their hand at tapping rubber (early morning), harvesting pepper (during season) or, if you are up to it, a full day’s work with the locals in the fields. Visitors will stay with their host family in a traditional Malay house and eat home-cooked food prepared by their hosts and take part in everyday village activities.
KAMPONG MELANO (B/L/D)
DAY 3 After breakfast, get ready for your visit to Tanjong Dato National Park. You will start with a nature walk for about 10 minutes before reaching the park. Ypo will trek through the tropical rainforest for another 1¾ hours before you reach the headquarter of this park.
Tanjong Dato National Park, being the smallest national park in Sarawak at just under 14 square kilometers is also the most beautiful. The park comprises a narrow ridge of rugged forest covered hills fringed by pristine white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and patches of coral reef. Located at the extreme south-western tip of Sarawak on Datu Peninsula where beaches really are undisturbed, the corals offshore are untouched. It is possible to dive on these reefs and the local tour operator can help to organize diving trips in this area and on small reefs located to the south of Kampong Melano. Note, that bookings need to be done prior to your arrival in order to prepare diving equipments.
After lunch and some free time to swim, a short boat ride brings you back to Kampong Melano. Dinner and overnight in Kampong Melano with your host family.
