After lunch we proceed to the final stage of our road journey, and arrive at the beautiful Batang Ai Lake. At the jetty, you will board the native longboats. This boat-ride will take you about 1 1/2 hrs to arrive at a longhouse. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted and welcomed by the Iban community of this village. Feel free and easy to mingle around with this people with the help of your guide. Swim in the beautiful and often crystal clear water. After dinner, join the Iban with their evening chores, weaving baskets, mending fishing nets, chatting etc. Don't forget to try their rice wine (Tuak).
BATANG AI – NANGA SERUGAM (B/L/D)
DAY 2 Breakfast in the longhouse. After breakfast you will proceed by longboat further up the Batang Ai River and detour to a smaller tributary for another 15-20min. Upon arrival at Ripien jungle lodge, you will get short rest with tea break before setting foot in this beautiful jungle. Trek into the rainforest in search of flora and fauna. In the very beginning of your trek will be climbing a hill for 1/2 hour, after which, you will be walking on the wild side of this hill in search of wildlife. For many sanctuaries the Nanga Serugam at Lanjak Entimau region bordering between Sarawak, Malaysia and Kalimantan, Indonesia has been the home for all kinds of wildlife. Here while walking, you may pass Orang Utan napkins (nest), which are built high up in the trees to protect themselves against any predators. If you are lucky enough you may also get a chance to see other animals like wild boar, civets, honey bears, gibbons, deer etc.
Simple lunch, either packed or cooked in native style will be served. After lunch you may proceed further to discover more wild animals and learn about the native jungle supermarket and pharmacy. Late afternoon you will arrive at Nanga Serugam and start to camp. Feel free to take a deep in this crystal clear stream. Dinner and overnight in, simple tents.
NANGA SERUGAM (B/L/D)
DAY 3 After breakfast you will proceed by walking down the stream (river) or if you feel in good condition, your guide will prepare, with the Iban, a bamboo/wooden raft to raft down this stream with many tricky bends and small rapids lunch stop along the way. Briefing by our guide on safety precautions before rafting downstream. Arrive at Ripien jungle lodge late afternoon. Swim in the beautiful stream before dinner and overnight in Ripien lodge.
NANGA SERUGAM – KUCHING (B/L/-)
DAY 4 After breakfast, time to say goodbye to your newly found native friends and proceed by native longboat down stream before you reach the car/van for your onward journey by road back to Kuching City with lunch en-route.
