MALACCA - KOTA BHARU (B/L/-)
DAY 2 Continental breakfast at hotel. At 5:00 AM depart from hotel and transfer from Malacca to the Gemas train station. From there, you will ride to Qua Musang using the third-class/ordinary train (distance of 390 km; about 9 hours). The train normally departs at around 7:30 AM, passing by mainly aboriginal territory. It's an area of dense jungle offering magnificent views of the countryside. Picnic lunch box will be provided.
Please note that this train is local public transport and hence can be uncomfortable for some travelers due to its basic amenities. Since it is part of the local public transportation, one must be prepared for unforeseeable delays. You should arrive in Gua Musang at around 4:15 PM. Our driver/guide will be waiting for you and they will drive you by car to Kota Bharu (190 km; about 2 hours), the bastion of traditional Malay culture. In the evening at Kota Bharu, we will visit Pasar Malam (the local night market) where the best Malay food is found. Overnight at the RENAISSANCE KOTA BAHRU HOTEL.
KOTA BHARU (B/L/-)
DAY 3 Breakfast at the hotel. After which you will join a morning city tour. Visit the Central Market, which is one of the most colorful markets in Malaysia. You can see fresh products (local vegetables, fruits, meats, etc), spices, locally woven baskets, mats and other items being sold. Kota Bharu is also the center for Malay crafts and we will visit a batik, songket, silverware, woodcarving and kite-making workshop. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will visit the surroundings of Kota Bharu. We will visit Wat Phothivihan, claimed to be one of the largest temples in Southeast Asia. The reclining Buddha statue is 40 meters long and one can enjoy the novelty of finding a Buddhist temple in a mostly Muslim dominated area, like Kelantan.
In the evening, we will pay a visit to the Pantai Dasar Sabak, the beach where on December 7, 1941 the Pacific Chapter of the World War II started when the Japanese troops stormed ashore, just 90 minutes before the attack on the American Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor. Hopefully a beautiful sunset will await you. Overnight at the RENAISSANCE KOTA BAHRU HOTEL.
KOTA BHARU – PULAU PERHENTIAN (B/-/-)
DAY 4 Breakfast at the hotel. Today you continue your journey, venturing towards Kuala Besut. From there you will board the ferry to Pulau Perhentian with white sandy beaches and crystal clear aquamarine water - probably one of the most beautiful islands in Malaysia. Rest of the day at leisure for sun, sea and fun! Overnight at the PERHENTIAN ISLAND RESORT or similar hotel.
PULAU PERHENTIAN (B/-/-)
DAY 5 Full day at leisure on the island. Overnight at PERHENTIAN ISLAND RESORT or similar hotel.
PULAU PERHENTIAN - KUANTAN (B/-/-)
DAY 6 Breakfast at hotel. Return by ferry to the mainland where your driver/guide will wait for you. Drive along the coastal road through the Malay Kampungs (villages) with en route stops to visit some of the villages and observe their traditional way of living. You will be able to see the villagers making boats and brassware. Drive towards Kuantan, check-in hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at HYATT REGENCY KUANTAN.
KUANTAN (B/-/-)
DAY 7 Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, make a visit to Cherating Village where you can see pandan leaves being woven into bags, mats and other crafts. You can also observe how the make brown sugar and enjoy watching the monkey pluck coconuts.
Rest of the day at leisure to enjoy the facilities of the hotel. Overnight at HYATT REGENCY KUANTAN.
KUANTAN – KUALA LUMPUR (B/-/-)
DAY 8 Breakfast at hotel. Drive from Kuantan back to Kuala Lumpur or extend your stay at Kuantan.
